Goldeneye
Bucephala clangula
Orshúileach

The Goldeneye is a widespread but thinly distributed winter visitor from northern Europe. The plumage of the male is striking, with predominantly white body and contrasting glossy black head, with a white spot near the base of the bill. The female is dull brownish with a pale neck band. In flight, the Goldeneye is particularly noticeable due to the large white wing patches and the curious ringing noise made by the wings.
