The Grey Wagtail is a bird of watery habitats, particularly running streams and rivers. The back is blue-grey, the wings and tail blackish, the latter with white outer feathers. There are clear black-and-white head markings – more noticeable in the male. The underparts are lemon-yellow, deeper under the tail. In winter the summer finery of the male is dulled and both sexes are alike. The call note has a metallic, ringing quality.
