This imposing, magic-like castle was the last of its kind to be built in Ireland. Dating from the 1860s, this masterpiece of Victorian architecture is said to be Ireland's "finest and most important 19th century castellated mansion". The 500 acre walled estate is right on the edge of the village of Kiltegan.
Humewood is a luxurious family home and can be booked for individuals on a nightly basis, and also caters for conferences and corporate entertainment. Each bedroom is a different shape and size and decorated and furnished in a unique style. The castle tower, reached by a narrow winding staircase, contains one of the honeymoon suites.

Cregg Castle, the last fortified castle to be built west of the Shannon, sits in a peaceful and tranquil spot on 67 hectares of wildlife preserve. Guests may walk in the woods and spot the wildlife, or go farther afoot and take a walk by the river. The emphasis here is on relaxation, and guests are encouraged to get to know each other, enjoying conversation and the occasional musical evening.
This is a unique property with many original features. A spring well provides the castle with water. Cregg Castle's welcome, as described in their brochure, is exactly right - "Hail Guest, we ask not what thou art; if friend we greet thee hand and heart; if stranger, such no longer be, our friendly faith shall conquer thee."
